Hello Readers,
Below is the recent email correspondence between CO CORD Co-Founder Rita Miller and CB 6 Michael Racioppo CB 6. These emails have been placed in sequential order to make them easier to read. CORD will attend the CB 6 general meeting this Wednesday June 12, 2019. See below:
CB 6 Calendar
June 12, 6:30 PM
General Board Meeting
Pave Academy
732 Henry Street
Brooklyn NY 11231
Agenda: Draft Agenda
CG CORD
Confirming my telecom with you this morning,CORD requests to be placed upon the exec committee meeting agenda which was (possibly?) scheduled for mom June 10We would like to speak with the committee. The Permits and Licenses Committee unanimously agreed that our request should be brought up to the Ex Comm.
Understand the Ex Comm meetings are held as needed. What constitutes a “need”?
Please advise
Thank you
Rita Miller
We think CORD's request for joint agency public meetings is an excellent idea. We are in the process of requesting just that, via letter, with the hope that the Commissioners in charge of the respective agencies are willing and able to honor our requests and be active participants.
The Executive Committee meets on an ad hoc basis and the agenda is more or less up to the Chair's discretion. That said, July is a month when we use the Executive Committee in lieu of the Full Board, so we are, nearly, guaranteed to have a meeting then. Now that we are aware of this request, we will have the lead time between now and the July Exec meeting to speak with the myriad agencies in an effort to pull this project together.
Between now and our July Exec, meeting based on the responses we get from the agencies, we’ll set the agenda or determine what further steps to take, if any. I want to make clear we are sensitive to the timing of the EIS release and the subsequent clock that begins for the Community Board.
Please keep in mind that we are an advisory group and do not have the power to compel attendance by multiple agencies on a specific date or any date for that matter but we will make a good faith effort to pull this off."
As I’m sure CORD is aware, this Board has submitted an extensive series of questions to get the Department of City Planning on record on all the relevant issues - by hosting extra meetings, having them live-streamed by WNET, deferring to the general public to ask all the questions during our own initial Land Use committee meeting on the Gowanus Rezoning/Draft Zoning Proposal, as well as asking for, and getting, the scoping comment period extended. Having said that we are happy to keep pushing for more.
Thanks again for contacting us on this."
Thank you for your rapid response.
I am, admittedly, pitifully unfamiliar with all of the nuances and exceptions to your bylaws. I had hoped, since the June 10th date was tentatively held on your calendar, that it would not be out of order or unaccustomed to call an Exec Committee meeting on slightly shorter notice.
With summer almost here and some of the Board members surely out of town during the upcoming weeks and months,I am indeed very disappointed.
However, CORD is delighted that you are amenable to this request and are taking steps to make it happen.
If I may, would you please be so kind as to email me a copy of the letter (s?) that you mentioned?
I am sure that the growing list of petition signers would be very encouraged to see them.
I am absolutely certain that they would be pleased to learn how responsive their Community Board is to their needs.
CORD recognizes all of the steps you have taken so far in this process and deeply appreciates all that our Community Board has done in this regard.
We understand you are an advisory board only, but you are tasked as the message bearer and spokespeople for what and how the COMMUNITY feels.
It is a very powerful and influential weight which the Board bears.
Am hoping to hear back from you very soon.
Thank you sincerely,
Rita Miller, CORD

"Hi Rita, Thank you for reaching out on this. We cannot have an Executive Committee meeting on Monday for a number of reasons, not the least of which being that we need more than a week's time to provide notice and appropriately pull this together. On Jun 4, 2019, at 4:01 PM, Michael Racioppo <mike@bkcb6.org> wrote:
