Voice of Gowanus Coalition Letter to Governor Hocul Regarding Gowanus Canal Toxic Clean-Up!

This just in from Voice of Gowanus!

Last week Voice of Gowanus, held a press conference with Walter Hang of Toxics Targeting. He is an expert who has spent weeks studying all the toxic sites in and around the Gowanus Canal and has drafted an extensive report showing that the current plan to remediate these sites is totally inadequate and will create a massive health and safety issue for those who current live nearby and any new residents that might move here in the future.

We at CG CORD would encourage you to watch the video of the entire news conference since there are two neighbors who gave very compelling statements!

Voice of Gowanus is currently collecting signatures on a coalition letter to NYS Governor Hochul, asking her to clean up the uplands surrounding the Gowanus Canal to the full extent of the law, which states that the State has to remove ALL of the pollution.

Please sign the letter and have everyone you know sign. They do not need to live in the neighborhood.  Even out of state people can sign. So ask your partners, your kids and all your neighbors.

We need everyone to lend their voice to this action.

Thank you so much in advance,
Katia

CORD HISTORY:

With the "Protect Our Homes" petition, CORD was formed in May, 2007. This petition arose as an overwhelmingly negative response to the coming of the over-sized 360 Smith Street Development at the corner of Smith Street and Second Place (Aka Oliver House; aka 131 Second Place). This petition, which had well over three thousand signatures, led to a new zoning text amendment in summer of 2008.

To: Our Elected Officials, Community Leaders, The MTA:
(MAY, 2007)

We the undersigned Carroll Gardens homeowners and residents, are appalled by the "as of right" ruling which allows owners and developers to erect buildings in our neighborhood with no regard to the impact they will present to our quality of life and the value of our homes........
