Send your letters to Brooklyn CB 6: Our community needs a Minimum of Two Inter-Agency Town Hall meetings STAT!

Our last CORD blog post featured our letter submitted to NY City Planning LINK.

CORD’s last post suggested that our Community Board 6 organize and host a minimum of two (2) inter-agency** Town Hall Q&A panel discussions  (at local, state and federal levels) to discuss and inform our community about how they plan to prepare and provide the necessary services for the proposed 19,000 new residents being brought here via the Gowanus Rezone.

If you agree, please send an email to each of the following:

Please join CORD's call for a minimum of two (2) inter-agency panel town hall Q&A discussions on the rezoning of the Gowanus Canal to be organized and held by Community Board 6, so that the community can assess for itself if the City has the means, the resources and the will to TRULY plan for the impact of about 8,200 new housing units and an estimated 19,000 new residents.

After all, WE will have to live with the consequences of the rezoning.

**A list of NYC agencies we think should be at our town hall include:

CORD HISTORY:

With the "Protect Our Homes" petition, CORD was formed in May, 2007. This petition arose as an overwhelmingly negative response to the coming of the over-sized 360 Smith Street Development at the corner of Smith Street and Second Place (Aka Oliver House; aka 131 Second Place). This petition, which had well over three thousand signatures, led to a new zoning text amendment in summer of 2008.

To: Our Elected Officials, Community Leaders, The MTA:
(MAY, 2007)

We the undersigned Carroll Gardens homeowners and residents, are appalled by the "as of right" ruling which allows owners and developers to erect buildings in our neighborhood with no regard to the impact they will present to our quality of life and the value of our homes........
